COCCOROCCI

Coccorocci is the biggest cobblestone beach in Sardinia.
Sheltered by the Capo d’Asta cape to the North, and by the Sferracavallo Promontory to the South, the beach is entirely covered in porphyry cobble stones smoothed by the sea (called, in the local Sardinian dialect “coccoronis”), where numerous sea snails live (called, in the local Sardinian dialect “coccorroccius”). These stones are of volcanic origin and boast a wide range of colors, from gray to pink and greenish.
The beach is located on the Southern side of Ogliastra, in the locality of Marina di Gairo, before Foxi Manna Beach, to the South.
Take the state road SS125 towards Cardedu, continue without entering the town. After a few hundred meters you will find the crossroad for Marina di Cardedu, indicated with a sign; take this road, drive for about 2 km and you will reach Perdepera Beach. Continue another 3.4 km and you will reach Coccorrocci Beach.
Located along Sardinia’s Central-Eastern coast, at the foothills of Mt. Ferru, Coccorocci Beach is 4 kilometers long, and it boasts shallow waters for about 5 meters off the shore. It is sheltered by the Capo d’Asta cape to the North, and by the Sferracavallo Promontory to the South. It consists entirely of smooth cobble stones, with color hues ranging from gray to pink and green. Here live numerous sea snails, called “coccorroccius” in the local Sardinian dialect. The beach is surrounded by red porphyry rugged cliffs that create numerous small inlets.

THE NATURAL POOLS OF MT. FERRU

Coordinates: 39° 43′ 20.66″ N 9° 39′ 15.56″ E
The Pools are formed by the water flowing down from Mt. Ferru, where the “Su accu e axina” spring gushes out and feeds the natural pools set among the red porphyry rocks.
In order to reach them you have to leave your car and walk downhill for about 150 meters. Once you reach the end of the road there is a an uphill path, about 600 meters long, that follows the creek until reaching the freshwater natural pools. They are surrounded by a pristine nature and the area has in fact been designated as a Site of Community Importance (BioItaly Project).
